Ein schönes Buch über die plötzliche und unerwartete Begegnung eines Adventure Racers mit einem Streuner, der sein Leben auf den Kopf stellt.

Mikael Lindnord ist mit seinem Team im Dschungel Ecuadors auf einem Adventure Race unterwegs, als ihm ein streunender Hund auffällt. Mikael teilt aus Mitleid sein Essen mit dem Hund. Dieser folgt dem Team, und besonders Mikael, auf dem Rest des Rennens quer durch den Dschungel.

Das Buch beginnt mit Mikaels Lebenslauf, erklärt was Adventure Racing ist und macht einige Sprünge zwischen der Gegenwart und der Vergangenheit des Erzählers. Es ist flüssig geschrieben, wer jedoch auf ein reines "Hundebuch" hofft, der braucht hier etwas Geduld. Obwohl mir das Buch gut gefallen hat, fand ich es hin und wieder etwas schwierig in den Lesefluss zu kommen, da doch sehr intensiv auf die einzelnen Rennen eingegangen wird, während man lange wartet, bis Arthur auftaucht. Sicherlich ist es wichtig, die Vorgeschichte Mikaels zu kennen, für mich persönlich war es jedoch etwas ermüdend.
Die Beziehung zwischen Arthur und Mikael ist mit viel Liebe dargestellt und erfreut jedes Hundefanherz! Arthur ist ein wahrlich besonderer Hund und man kann gut verstehen, dass Mikael alle Hebel in Bewegung versetzt hat, im ihn mit nach Hause zu nehmen.

Fazit: Ein schönes Buch für Hundefreunde, die sich auch für eine besondere Sportart interessieren.

A beautiful book about an adventure racer's sudden and unexpected encounter with a stray dog that turns his life upside down.

Mikael Lindnord is on an Adventure Race with his team in the jungle of Ecuador when he notices a stray dog. Mikael shares his food with the dog out of pity. The dog follows the team, and especially Mikael, on the rest of the race across the jungle.

The book begins with Mikael's resume, explains what adventure racing is, and makes several jumps between the present and the narrator's past. It is written smoothly, but if you are hoping for a pure "dog book", you will need some patience here. Although I enjoyed the book, I found it a bit difficult to get into the reading flow now and then, as there is a lot of focus on the individual races while you wait a long time for Arthur to show up. Surely it is important to know Mikael's backstory, but for me personally it was a bit tiring.
The relationship between Arthur and Mikael is portrayed with much love and delights every dog fan's heart! Arthur is a truly special dog and you can well understand that Mikael has put all the levers in motion to take him home.

Conclusion: A nice book for dog lovers who are also interested in a special sport.… (altro)

Arthur is a heart warming memoir of a dog rescue. Mikael Lindnord is an adventure racer. He and his team are on a grueling, 400+ mile race through the jungles of Ecuador when they encounter a stray dog at one of the race's rest stops. In a small act of kindness Mikael shares his food with the dog and the rest, as they say, is history. The dog follows the team along for the rest of the race. What starts as a cute quirk quickly changes as a deep bond forms between Mikael and the dog. They struggle through some tough terrain together, battling injury and illness and cross the finish line. It is then that Mikael decides he will save Arthur and bring him home to Sweden, whatever it takes.

I've never heard of adventure racing before. Those people are nuts! What was amazing is that Arthur was able to keep up with them throughout the second half of the race. He had some pretty severe back wounds when he meets up with Mikael's team. The paperwork and red tape involved to bring an animal from one country to another was intimidating. The story also highlights how animal rights are non-existent in some parts of the world. Mikael has started a foundation to try and change the laws in these countries to give animals more protection. It's going to be a long, slow process but I think his team is up for the challenge.… (altro)
