He began his career as a working scientist with stints at the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge, England, and at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois, but soon turned his talents to writing about science. Se la scienza è portare ordine nella confusione si può dire che nel 1927 vi fu un cambio totale di direzione. Werner Heisenberg, un fisico di soli venticinque anni, introdusse il tema della 'inesattezza'. Di qui la sua scoperta del principio di incertezza che lo ha reso noto ed ha dato nuove fondamenta alla ricerca scientifica.
