author - Breve biografia
- Caroline Linden was born a reader, not a writer. She earned a math degree from Harvard University and wrote computer software before turning to writing fiction. Ten years, twelve books, three Red Sox championships, and one dog later, she has never been happier with her decision. Her books have won the NEC Reader's Choice Beanpot Award, the Daphne du Maurier Award, and RWA's RITA Award. Since she never won any prizes in math, she takes this as a sign that her decision was also a smart one.

Anyway, four years later and everything has changed for Celia and not necessarily for Anthony - she is now a widow and his name is still being drug thru the gossip rags.
The observations on gossip were like a splash of ice-cold water to the face. Of course I gossip, I am a human and full of faults. But there are times when gossip can feel grotesque, and like I feel sick in my stomach (for instance, Anthony has his rake image bolstered by the gossip papers so women feel free to approach him - sometimes aggressively - for assignations as if he is a public utility to be used and shared). Celia reenters society as a widow, now with perspectives that are hardened. And with thoughtful ideas about the future she wants for herself. Also, the title is interesting. Is Anthony an actual rake or is he a rake because gossip papers say he is? Has he enjoyed liaisons with women, yes. But does that make him a rake? No. Finally, there is a scene in a rowboat, with other people in rowboats surrounding them, that is somehow the hottest interaction in this book - an no sex is actually happening, rather there is an intimate mental seduction.
As I said earlier, everything here was unexpected including how Anthony and Celia are brought together.… (altro)
