Breve biografia
[from Wikipedia]
Robert Stell Lemmon (born 26 June 1885 in Englewood, New Jersey; died 3 March 1964 in Wilton, Connecticut), often Robert S. Lemmon in publications, was an American writer and naturalist. He wrote and lectured on domestic dogs, gardening, wildlife, wild flowers and trees. Most of his writing was non-fiction, but in 1923 he also wrote an adventure short-story called "The Bamboo Trap", about an American entomologist caught in a cave in the Ecuadorian jungle.

Such a beautiful book! My edition is copyrighted 1961. The photographs are bright and beautiful. The layout of the book is pleasing to the eye and I find the text interesting. Quote from close to the end of the book, page 274: "In 440 illustrations we have attempted to reflect the honest beauty of the species represented and, as far as possible, reveal their natural habitat. Only a few of the many flowers pictured have been uprooted or cut to make more pleasing illustrations. We risked quicksand to photograph the Arrowhead; we stood in a glacial stream bed to shoot our specimen of the mountain Fringed Gentian; we tied equipment to a canyon wall to photograph Shrubby Cinquefoil...But it has been fun! And we're happy to have saved a few more wildflowers from destruction while observing the rule, "Admire and leave for others to enjoy."… (altro)

Book Description
Illustrated with over 50 illustrations, and fully indexed, this is a well written, well designed, well illustrated book. It's a vivid account of birds and the fundementals of ornithology. This series should not be shunned for it's copyright date. On many subjects, birds included, these books still represent the best introductions for young people available.
