Confession. Friends were moving out and trying to dispose of a shelf of books so I helped out by taking this book.But it looked interesting and it IS interesting. Though I've checked the maps against some of the walks that I know well and found the maps distinctly lacking. They are very diagrammatic. A bit like trying to use the London subway map to figure out where you are going. Yes, the highlighted "sights" probably appear in the right order but if you are enmeshed in the maze of little streets at the end of the Balmain peninsular, then the map in the book will not be very helpful....it just doesn't have the detail. I've found this with at least one other book on walks around Sydney (in that case "with a dog"). Though it does have a lot of walks and in all parts of Sydney so I'm prepared to give it a go and try some of the walks. At least it has the local features identified...though not much background behind the features. At this stage I 'll give it two stars though prepare to change that after I've actually used it on a real walk.… (altro)
