Janice Law (2) (1939–)

Substance: The story hook was actually quite interesting, involving a search for the "missing" cornerstone of the US Capitol, a "missing" colonial treaty, and some "missing" artwork. Too bad the author did a terrible job of telling the story.
Style: Reads more like a fictionalized legal brief than a novel (author was a lawyer). Intro is okay, but flashbacks are very poorly handled, and the exposition of the historical back-story is plodding and confusing. Characters are walking clichés, with very implausible relationships and personalities; dialogue comes straight out of the telly. Excellent case study in how not to write a book.
NOTE: Law never does get around to explaining how anyone knew the original cornerstone was missing in the first place, although apparently it really is gone: ? capitol cornerstone mystery.;
