Felicity “Fizzy” Chen is a successful romance novelist. However, she realizes that she hasn't been true to herself, and has never been in love. Connor Prince, documentary filmmaker and single father, is asked to create a reality TV show, The True Love Experiment. Fizzy is selected to be the female and a host of men are brought on to be her true love.
But the chemistry between Fizzy and Connor is hot and can't be ignored. He hates watching her be courted by these men, but it is not wise to act on his own instincts as producer of the show.
This started slow for me, but then heated up quickly, and turned out to be a solid romance. I am not a fan of reality TV, so perhaps that was the piece that was hard for me.

The internet algorithms have tried recommending Christina Lauren’s books to me before and I hadn’t read any because the vibe I got was “not my cup of tea”. But this novella, another “Improbable Meet-Cute”, made me so happy! I have already reread it twice this week.

On the 14th of February, a typo results in c.sun16@ipsd.edu emailing t.sol18@ipsd.edu, another student from the same high school district. The two of them develop an annual tradition of emailing each other every Valentine’s Day. Each year they share more about themselves -- but just not their names.

I love epistolary storytelling -- I love the sort of reading between the lines one has to do. I also enjoy “courtship through correspondence”, which this story eventually becomes.

I liked the shifts in tone as C and T grow from teenagers to adults. I liked how they talk about family and college, and the little hints that they have things in common. I liked how they developed in-jokes. I liked the humour. (I liked the improbable fantasy that this story unfolds the way it does.)
Don’t worry about it. Tbh, it was the only note I got from a guy on Valentine’s Day, so I’ll take it.
T.

That sucks. But also, how do you know I’m a guy?
C.

I just took a wild guess since you didn’t use any exclamation points and any female in this city would use several.
T.

Smart. So from your lack of exclamation points you must also be a guy. What school do you go to?

I am the exception to the rule. And didn’t your parents tell you not to share personal information with strangers on the internet?
Happy Valentine’s Day,
T.

4.5 ⭐️

I really enjoyed this read! I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I was skeptical at first..I'm not one for chick-lit in general, but this one tickled my fancy, so why not give it a try? What I appreciated the most about this is the fact that main character [Olive], isn't your typical chick. She's genuine from her personality to her physical description. I also appreciated the pacing of this book; it was a quick and easy read, but it didn't feel too long or too short. My one little criticism about this book is that the end felt somewhat rushed in the sense that it was somewhat a bandaid fix. I appreciated that author tried to go somewhere with it, but more could have been explored or it could have been done a little differently to honor the main character. I wish that the author had done the change in perspective throughout the book. However, that being said, it wasn't a horrible ending. If you're into chick-lit, cheesy romance, or just a quick fun read...this is for you.… (altro)
