The author employs Orwell's "doublethink" and "Newspeak" to coin the title, Doublespeak, as a description of distorted language, or language used to confuse. He then provides a collection of examples, most of which derive from public officials in the post-Watergate era, whose contributions are credited.
Much of the material is colorful, wonderful, or even naive -- the church bulletin description of a new font so that "babies may now be baptized at both ends". Or comedic -- Will Rogers' "I belong to no organized party. I am a Democrat."… (altro)
