*Disclaimer, I received a free copy of this book by the author for an honest review*

It took me a really long time (like a few months) to read this book. It felt even longer reading it. It felt like a really harrowing marathon. I marathon I had to finish. The structure, tone, and voice of the story felt very biblical to me. A collection of various short stories/parables told in tandem with the life of Huey Baker an alcoholic architect(obviously a more modern version of Jesus, I guess lol) who is also the author of said stories. Some are historical snippets, some are a collection of songs or poems, while others are just sermons about the ills and follies of society. Even though the advice is sincere and practical it's not very coherent or cohesive to the main narrative. I appreciate the intent but it wasn't done very well.… (altro)

Mark Lages points a finger of a fictional character who pokes fun at himself through laughter. It fails horribly to be funny, in my opinion, but he does make me think about the "what if's". Joking about God is very offensive to me as I was raised that HE does not play and yet HIS name is taken in vain by mankind. Maybe those who has no fear of God will stop doing this. I loved his older books as THEY WERE FUNNY and I couldn't stop laughing!!

I tried to like this tale filled with life lessons, as provided primarily by an imaginary friend. The lessons presented are valid and interesting. But the story just isn’t, the characters are boring. I see great reviews and wonder if there’s an alternative version. The only reason I would return to this book is my profound dislike of not finishing a book!

Howard Mirth is a sixty-five-year-old son, husband, and father. He earns a decent living, pays his taxes, loves his family, and stays out of trouble. But one day he snaps, and he finds himself locked up in a mental hospital. Join Howard as he sorts through his confusing life and finds his way back to the actual world.

Thank you, Mark Lages, for sending me Off the Furrow!

Once again Mark Lages has given us an entertaining page turner! That will have you thinking and feeling an array of emotions. And there are plenty of laughs! I enjoyed every minute I spent glued to the pages! This was a wonderful adventure! It is a touching story about the road Howard takes to get better. I liked that I could relate to the characters. Each character has something about them that everyone can find in themselves. Happy reading everyone!
