Ralph Kovel has authored more than 75 books & currently write a nationally syndicated newspaper column, a monthly column in "House Beautiful", & a subscription-only national newsletter, "Kovels on Antiques & Collectibles". Kovel was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 20, 1920. He attended Ohio State University and served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked as a food broker, owned a salad-dressing company, owned a shrimp farm in the Bahamas, and became a vice president at Sara Lee. Together, he and his wife Terry H. Kovel have written almost 100 guides to antiques and collectibles including Kovels' Antiques and Collectibles Price List, Kovels' American Silver Marks, Kovels' Bottles Price List, and Kovels' Bid, Buy and Sell Online. They have also written a nationally syndicated column since 1955 and published a monthly newsletter entitled Kovels on Antiques and Collectibles. Good info. Would Google be better?
A comprehensive overview of maker marks for early pottery and porcelain. Organized by style of mark, the user can navigate through mark styles to locate maker marks. Also includes maker information as well as dates of operation.
This reference for bottle collectors lists bottles by manufacturer. There are sparse black and white pictures with basic descriptions and values. There is a special insert in the middle with full color pictures and descriptive text. Not all bottles are antiques, some are made especially for the collectibles market.
Good reference work for identifying antiques through pictures, makers' marks, and descriptions.
