There's a lot to love in this book: beautiful prose that will delight any foodie, recipes, complex characters. And the whole thing is steeped in Greek culture and the difficulties of trying to build a family "for the kid."

However, and this is a spoiler - one of the women essentially rapes the other. She collects semen from the father of her child (they're living together and in a relationship, this is by oral sex) and injects it into her lover while the woman is passed out on the floor. Neither person consented to this. It's near the end of the book and is never addressed as being wrong. Callie doesn't tell Xeni what she's done and the resulting child is passed off as an immaculate conception. To make it worse, Xeni was sexually abused as a child, meaning her love interest is compounding this trauma. I cannot in good conscience recommend the book, even though I was in love with the story and the writing for the first 75%.
