Jayla is an only child who has few friends since her BFF moved away, and her peer relatives make less than ideal companions. What can she find to get involved in that will help her make more friends? Turns out it is double dutch; Jayla also learns that her mother and other older relatives jumped double dutch back in their day. Jayla starts a double dutch club at school but must deal with an inattentive club advisor and lack of interest from other kids. Still, her goal is to participate in the April 1st Double Dutch competition. She may have to look to her offbeat relatives to make it happen. Jayla is a lively, likable character and the book nicely incorporates aspects of health and exercise, showing double dutch as a fun fitness option for most any age.… (altro)
