This short book spans a broad time frame, from the Great Fire of 1666 to the mid-20th century, with a large portion devoted to the Victorian Era. This is a quick but worthwhile read.

it really dates something to call it "of today." on the back it even says "the very best american writers of the last 3 decades" which is hardly "today."
