James Johnstone, Chevalier du Johnstone

First person memoir of the events surrounding the 1745 Jacobite rebellion - the march of the Highland army of Prince Charles Edward, Bonnie Prince Charlie, down to Derby and back north to Culloden is well known. Chevalier Johnstone adds his own personal details but becomes more interesting in aftermath of Culloden, recounting his flight south to London, before eventually escaping to the Netherlands. Adventures and amorous entanglements add to the interest.

Entralling account of one of the Scottish supporters of bonny Prince Charles in the Jacobite uprising of 1745. Though initially victorious, the Jacobites were finally defeated at the Battle of Culloden. Much of the account relates to his escape from retribution with the aid of sympathetic friends in Scotland and England.
