This is almost a companion to the book Nana and Me by the same author, although I did not like this one as much. The young boy and his Pop Pop bake a cake together. The story is told in a rhyming fashion using sounds that could be fun to imitate together. A recipe for the lemon cake they make is at the back of the book.

The story is told in simple language for young children to understand. The watercolour illustrations add warmth to the story. The expressions on the faces of both Pop Pop and his grandson are priceless, they are so real. The emotions expressed are easy to see and relate to. What a wonderful story to use to prepare for a visit with grandparent or as a reminder of what great times children can have or have had with their grandparents. A nice addition to a family library. Grade Level: Kindergarten and 1st grade
This book is about a girl, who goes sweet potato shopping with her family. They are buying sweet potatoes so they can surprise her dad with a sweet potato pie for his birthday. While at the vegetable cart, the sweet potatoes fall off the cart and roll all through the city. The more the sweet potatoes roll the larger they grew. In they end they are finally able to stop the sweet potatoes, just in time to make the pie and surprise her dad for his birthday.
This is a good book to use when teaching repetition in literature, to students.… (altro)
