The Water Book di Alok Jha
Jha almost lost me in the arcane details of the many different forms of ice that can exist, mostly only in labs. But then he told the story of all the places we are finding water beyond earth, and then tied it back into water's all important roll in the advent of life here on earth, and that was fantastic food for thought.

Armageddon has been much in the news recently what with two putative End Days prophesied last year and the December’s Mayan Doomsday removing the necessity for buying Christmas presents in 2012.
Alok Jha examines the ‘poetry of the possible’, setting up various likely scenarios, and warning that we live in the shadow of possible annihilation by a number of [mostly familiar] threats – like planet-wrecking cosmic debris, global pandemics and climatic changes.
He also postulates some more unusual causes for mass extinction: Death by Euphoria [too many mind-altering prescription drugs], a Runaway Black Hole, Hostile Extraterrestrials, Geomagnetic Reversal and the, literal, End of Time.
