The Ultimate Baking for One Cookbook by Kelly Jaggers
175 Super Easy Recipes Made Just for You

Perfect for those wanting a smaller portion of baked goods than most cookbooks provide – I think that it would be fun for those wanting to limit leftovers and waste, people who want to limit portions available to be eaten, anyone who has a smaller oven in their home or camper/trailer, and anyone just interested in making smaller recipes any time.

The recipes sound delicious and include many of my favorites that I usually avoid because I don’t want a HUGE amount for just my husband and I. With cookies, bars, muffins, cakes, cheesecakes, breads, rolls, biscuits, pies, tarts, cobblers, puddings, custards, and quick breads – there is something for everyone.

Techniques, tips, ingredients, and equipment are all included along with specific measurements and sizes of pans that will be needed.

I did think that my oven is too large to make many of these items since we don’t use the oven often avoiding waste of propane and that made me wonder if perhaps a smaller electric oven might be a worthwhile purchase in the future. I also wondered how easy it would b to find some of the smaller baking pans.

The recipes that most intrigued me were the ones made in a mug and cooked in a microwave and I have a feeling I will be trying one or more of them in the future.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I like to have a copy on my kitchen bookshelf? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and Adams Media for the ARC – This is my honest review.

OMG!!!! This cookbook is a game changer! I love baking but on the flipside I'm concerned with my health/weight. I am absolutely the sort that will make a batch of cookies (of whatever is left of the dough, of course!) and then snack on them endlessly because they are there. So for that reason I don't bake much at all anymore, but definitely still get the cravings.

As I was paging through this book and seeing so many of my old favorites and others that sound absolutely yummy - in single (maybe double) servings I got very excited!! Most of the cookies, muffins, brownies yield 6 (which means I could share them with my family of 3 if I wanted to - yeah, right!) Cakes, pies, custards generally come in a single 4" pan/ramekin - which as a soon to be empty nester, will be perfect to split or double easily. And all without having to go through the hassle of all that math!!

The only two potential drawbacks I could see to this book is: 1) The meager number of photos which is usually at least one star deduction for me but I know what most of these foods look like anyway, and 2) Some of the ingredient amounts are so small (6 wrapped caramels or 6 cocktail sausages) that leaves me wondering what I would do with the rest. Eat them obviously! (well the caramels anyway). But this is not enough to keep me from ordering this book for myself (I was provided with a temporary digital copy in exchange for this honest review). It is being released tomorrow (11/30/21) and I want mine ASAP.

Many thanks to #NetGalley, the publisher Adam Media and the Author Kelly Jaggers for allowing me the pleasure of drooling over this book.

I made one pie from this book - Chess Pie. And it was very, very good. I could make more pies, but then we'd just get fat. :-) Taking it back to the library, but it was fun reading through it. And, yes, I do need to learn how to make my own pie crust. But not just yet.
