Not the white saviours! Why did the white people have to save the Black person and why did her biological mother give her up for adoption? So problematic. Also why did Alemitu's name change to Eva and then she forgets her biological mother, her former name was perfectly fine. It rubs me the wrong way when a white person writes a book with a Black character, and as with other books like this, it would've been better if a person who lived a similar experience to Alemitu told the story rather than someone who never did.… (altro)

Delightful! Shades of message in a bottle, the Purple Pail sails around the world as if it has a hand in its destinations. Each child was using the Pail in their own country when it rolled out to sea only to join the next child. Some of the places it visits are Ireland, Maine, Central and South America, Malaysia, and New Zealand. At the end is a map to follow. Niki Leonidou is the fantastic illustrator who brings color and more to the simple drawings. This is a great book to read with someone else, especially ESL.
