J. E. Hutton (1868–1937)

Basically the church started with Hus in Bohemia and had a tragic history there till rescued by Zinzendorf. He seems to have been a multilingual megabrain always two steps ahead of anyone who thought they were following him. The church had amazing pioneer roles in mission, all over the world, and kept true to an evangelical faith whilst being relaxed about doctrine, and the theory of the bible. They stuck it out even in the face of German rationalism, but were only a minority all along. Remarkable reliance on the Lot for deciding policy. Long book, only read selected parts, and it dates from 1909. Various different printings available.… (altro)
