Evergreen Stories di W. M. L. Hutchinson
This is a collection of classical stories retold by Mr. Hutchinson: "The Strange Adventures of King Midas" with parts extracted from Herodotus, Virgil and Ovid; a story he calls "The Noble Wife" taken from Euripides play "Alcestis"; a story he calls "The Real Helen" adapted from Euripides's play "Helena"; a version of the ancient fairy tale "Cupid and Psyche" by Apuleius; and "The Vision of Er" from Plato.
Contains some stories of the Greek Heroes told in easy English by author Hutchinson. Some of those appearing are: Odysseus and Circe, Bellerophon, Theseus, Heracles, Pheidippides, Herodotus and Croesus. None of the stories of Greek Mythology stuck with me as I read my way through the Fitzroy and New Plymouth Boys High School, so It was fun to read just these ones now in 2022. I haven't yet been able to obtain a copy of the first series of Evergreen Stories published as a "Kings Treasury" by J. M. Dent and Sons Ltd, but I am still searching for one.… (altro)
