This is a good introduction to the concept of caring or counselling from the point of view of a relative or friend, rather than a professional. It outlines the necessary qualifications such as willingness to listen, and the ability to be non-judgmental. The aim of the book is to show how to help people in trouble of any kind to find the image of God within, and to be able to move forward.

The book is not particularly long and inevitably, being an introduction, does not go into any great depth. It gives an overview of the particular needs that often arise: angry adolescents, confused young people who seek guidance, stressful marriages, and so on. Illustrated with simple line drawings, the book suggests possible reasons for various problems, and potential strategies to explore.

I didn't learn anything new, but thought it a good overview. Perhaps three-and-a-half stars would be fairer.… (altro)
