Jack D. Hunter was born on June 4, 1921, in Hamilton, Ohio. He attended Pennsylvania State University and served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. He worked as a reporter for several newspapers before writing mystery novels. Hunter won acclaim with The Expendable Spy. Published in 1965, this work mostra altro won the Edgar for best first mystery novel. His other novels include Spies Incorporated, The Blue Max, and Slingshot.
