Angie is such a great character, she has been wandering around cities and jobs for years looking for the next best thing and is currently between temp jobs when she goes camping in a park with rumours of a mythical beast roaming the woods. She is a huge cryptozoology nerd and has always been fascinated by magical creatures even if she only gets to indulge online these days. I relate to her so much about the online interest, I believed in magic and the unknown well past the average age as a kid and it has come back as a fantasy/paranormal book addiction. She also is experiencing a common phenomenon amongst 20 something-year-olds of wanderlust and indecision. We want to do something but with so much pressure to pick the right thing we often end up wandering the woods (metaphorically)

Lucky for Angie that feeling was leading her to her soulmate who is the mythical bat creature in the woods. If only we all had shifter soulmates waiting for us out there to explain our wandering. I loved how flustered they both were when they meant, it was adorable. Angie has such a kind heart and her acceptance of Gwen and her gargoyle soothes Gwen in a way she didn't expect. Angie is the coolest she rolled with every punch and barely blinked when Gwen told her they were mates and that blind love and acceptance is so pure, it was beautiful to read. I love the appreciation of a fit female, Angie likes taller and muscly women and we get to hear that whereas we often hear about hyperfeminine traits being attractive. There was so much comparison of her physique to a man and just thank you for appreciating the female form outside of any male forms. Gwen is the kind of hero we all want to swoop in and save us. I think anyone would fall in love with Gwen regardless of her gargoyle the girl is hot and capable and what more do we want. My favourite moment was hands down when Angie blurted out she was lesbian too even though Gwen was trying to tell her about them being mates. The boldness and cuteness were next level. Also, they were flirting so hard anyone could have guessed they were into each other. Also, I knew trying to scare them off was a bad idea and was expecting to have to include advice in my review but Angie beat me too so once again bless Angie she is perfect.
I was unsure going into it what to expect but I want to read the next one already!
