It seems not everyone who dies realizes they've died. In some instances, these deceased individuals need assistance making their final transition to a spiritual realm. I've been exposed to the concept of soul rescue in multiple settings. While I've never been a rescuer (at least not to my knowledge), I've known people who have had this experience. I attended the Monroe Institute's Lifeline program where one of the other participants while in an altered state of awareness met someone who needed assistance. She obtained information from this deceased person (name, place the person had died and circumstances leading to his death) that an independent investigator was able to verify as being accurate.

Vaughn Boone, a healer from NC, once told me about his and others' efforts to help people who lost their lives in the Oklahoma bombing and the World Trade Center tragedies. According to Vaughn, more people needed assistance in Oklahoma than at the WTC. Vaughn believes this was because there were many more people instantaneously killed there than at the WTC.

Monica Holly's book documents many of her experiences during her sleep state helping souls make their transition. I think this subject is important because it points to the importance of what you consciously believe as you transition into a post-physical existence.

This is an unusual book where the title doesn’t quite reflect its contents.

I’ve been fascinated by accounts of death and near death experiences for quite a while. I was excited to receive this book. In the first few chapters, author Holy reveals that during her periods of sleep, she sees spirits of those who have had trouble crossing into the next dimension. She often counsels them and shows them that they are able to truly leave and go onwards.

Interesting enough, Holy also has the ability to ‘jump into’ a dying person’s body and relieve their stress before their death. She has done this in cases of traumatic death such as murder where she is able to help the dying with their fears and terror and point them to the love on the other side.

A third chapter I found very interesting involved what Holy called ‘the Greys’, a group of spirits so weighed down by their earthly suffering and fear that they are unable to move onwards. They appear to Holy as grey and colorless—hence their name—and tend to congregate into lalrge groups. The additive negative energy of these groups is huge and makes it nearly impossible to help their members precede into the next stage of the afterlife. Encountered alone or a little way off from the group, Holy can help them move onwards.

Some of the dreams that Holy has regarding her encounters with beings on the other side are a bit hard for me to take in—contracts and signed agreements as to her responsibilities and classrooms with chalk talks where she both learns and teaches from others who travel between the spiritual planes. It’s hard to fathom if this is a literal representation of the life in the spiritual planes or Holy’s subconscious putting events into human terms.

Almost two thirds of the book, however, leave Holy’s interesting afterlife encounters behind and instead deal with more common New Age subjects—finding a spiritual guide including animal guides and totems, lucid dreaming including flying dreams, synchronicity, seeing signs of an ancient civiliization on another planet and even meeting her young son as she travels in the alternate planes of existence.

I'm not quite sure what I expected from this book aside from an interesting account about the author's life and experiences. While the book delivers in terms of content--it is about her life and experiences--the structure of the book is rather off putting. Instead of forming a smooth narrative, the sections feel choppy, disjointed, at times rambling.

Readers who are very interested in the subject matter of the book may be able to get over the structure of the book, but it was a stumbling block for me.… (altro)

This book was very different from what I'd expected. I thought it would be an anecdotal account of experiences, but it was more like the author's personal philosophy of life, even though it did include a few specific experiences to introduce the philisophical point of the chapter. It was presented well, with a take-it-or leave-it type attitude that came across as very open and not pushy. However, it did feel like a particular religion being presented at times. Still, it was very interesting to read about the experiences that Monica Holy has had in her life. Others who have had similar dreams and experiences should relate well to it, but it was a little bit hard to follow for someone who had none of the experiences and could easily be confused with fiction in some places. It should appeal directly to her target audience though, as she wrote the book to confirm to others with these experiences that they aren't "crazy".
The author included her artwork to illustrate each chapter, but I was extremely dissapointed that it was in black and white throughout, especially when she talks specifically about the color in it.
Overall it was a good read, but did feel a little bit repetative at times since the chapters were so closely related.
