Tim is excited to spend the Saturday with his Dad. Tim lives with his Mom and his Dad lives in another town so he only gets to see him once in awhile. Tim really enjoys their time together and looks forward to these visits. The book shares the story of what a day looks like for Tim and his Dad. It shares Tim's emotions about knowing his time with his Dad is limited and is going to end, but it also demonstrates that he can enjoy the time with him while it lasts. This story is a gentle look at a delicate situation where a child gets limited time with one parent or the other. Although the book does not mention divorce in the language, the writing style and suggestive plot allow the reader to infer that this is the situation. The character, Tim, is relatable to children as he is a young boy excited to see his Dad who has just moved to another town. His emotion is demonstrated in both the text and the illustrations and children could possibly see themselves in Tim when it comes to living apart from a parent (or perhaps both).
Media: charcoal, colored pencils, pen and ink
Genre: Children's books, Contemporary realistic fiction as it presents a character that could be a real child who experiences things in real-life settings ("Tim...has just moved to this town. He lives here with his mom. His dad lives in another town. But today, Tim's Dad is coming on the train. They are going to spend the day together").
