I have lukewarm feelings on this book.
On the one hand there were parts I *loved* and there were parts that weren't so great. Hitchcock gave a story much like Jen Turano's which threw me off a bit since it wasn't the same style but Hitchcock's own writing style. Both of which I enjoy, I just needed to get a feel for it and I found that I liked it a lot.
The story was hilarious and serious all at once with a competing romance and a dash of mystery. Readers of Gilded Age.
My biggest dislike would be that there were times the plot was somewhat iffy, like it would have been a novella and not a novel but the author and publisher lengthened it into a novel.
Warnings: 18 due to a villain and sexual content.
I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.… (altro)

abigailkayharris | 8 altre recensioni | Jan 1, 2024 | This was a very interesting book! I enjoyed the characters and the storyline very much. I also liked that the author was very descriptive in her writing. It made the book come alive.
Theodore (Teddy) has been jilted. He decides to focus on a contest with his brother to see who will become the new company head. He is a very sought after bachelor in his set. Flora has convinced her family to vacation in New Orleans because she knows Teddy is available again. She hopes to catch his eye but is unprepared for all of the competition. One day Teddy shows Flora his steamship plans and she shows him her interior design skills. They decide to work together and this has them spending a lot of time together. Teddy starts to develop feelings for Flora but Flora's father has other plans. Teddy must decide if love is worth fighting for. Flora foolishly runs after Teddy while he's delivering a boat. Unfortunately for her, his brother Carlisle turns out to be in charge of the delivery. The boat is boarded by pirates and Teddy comes to Floras rescue. Her father gives them the green light for courting and they get married.… (altro)

I absolutely love these three Novella’s. All stand alone so you can pretty much read them in one setting. Thats what I love about short stories. They are great at this time of the year. Now to the reviews for these three stories, author Grace Hitchcock does an outstanding job writing these stories. I love her writing style. It’s like coming home to a cozy setting with a fire place and just sitting there reading. And that’s what these stories felt like.
The Bridal Shop
Forget about having a man to support her, Alice Turner can support herself just fine with her newly opened Bridal Shop, thank you very much. She might make wedding and Brides maid dresses, but none for her. That all changes when her best friend gets married. The characters and their development throughout the story were spot on. Alice was a sweetheart and I wanted the best for her. Life had been hard for her, and it still was. But I won’t go into detail because the story is short, and I’m not giving any more away.
Miss Beaumont’s Companion
Aria St. Angelo is an Italian companion to Millie, a young lady who get what she wants. Millie is in love with someone not relating to her families wealth, so she talks Aria into some pretty stupid things really. Sweet Aria! I love this character who works to help her family, and doesn’t deserve the treatment she gets from some of the people she encounters. This story will have you glued to the book to make sure Aria turns out OK. But does she? Read the book! You will love it.
When Tacy Blanche returned to her work as a Harvey Girl at the Montezuma, she runs into someone from her past. Her life has been rough, but I was glad that people could still see Jeasus in her.
I enjoyed these stories so much. All three of them are do awesome. I love everything that Grace Hitchcock writes. So for I have read them all! This book is great for someone who doesn’t have long hours to read. Each of these can be read in one sitting. You come away from each story feeling so refreshed. I’m sure this book will be read again, and I’ll keep it for just the right moment I moment. Thanks to you Grace Hitchcock for these three beautiful stories. For always running faith in the lives of your characters.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.… (altro)
