Mazie Keiko Hirono

The only parts of this book I didn't love were the last few chapters, summing up recent national events. I think I will appreciate them more with some distance from them. Tucked in there were some details about how the House and Senate work, and I did appreciate those. I loved reading about Hirono's years in Hawaii--her growing up with her single mother, her brothers, and eventually her grandparents. I loved reading about local politics in Hawaii. I get a kick out of her personality--frank, strategic, no patience for crap. Oh, and I enjoyed reading about the art-making she does--I want to read more about that! This definitely deepened my appreciation for her. And there's some nice descriptive writing in here,… (altro)
