Spindle Fire is a beautifully written telling of the Sleeping Beauty fable. The language in the novel is breathtaking, gorgeously written phrases, delicious descriptions, poetic and inventive similes. The characters are compelling, particularly Isabelle, who navigates a thrilling adventure with great bravery and determination. The section with Isabelle among the narwhal hunters is particularly gripping and exciting.

I kinda liked the story. First of: Really interestingly written. We see the past from Lillys view, but the present is mainly seen trough Tessas eye. The mystery is incredible, fore- and background at the same time and it is only in the last couple chapters that you start to understand what is really up. The writing style is beautiful and definitely worth reading the book for.
But then I didn't love the book 100 percent, because in the end, some of the characters fell a little flat.

A twisty teen murder story involving three sisters. I was a little let down when the mystery was revealed but it kept me intrigued enough to find out. There are some gorgeous poems peppered throughout that really gave heart to the character of Kit for me.

Isabelle is an amazing hero, my favorite character of the books. Sightless, resolute, brave. Absolutely loved her character arc. Her sister Aurora is equally compelling, resourceful, self-sacrificing. These two women are vivid, vibrant characters. The supporting characters, the world, the descriptions of battle, the faeries, the tithing, the magic: with these Hillyer has created, in this duology, remarkable, memorable stories to savor, to treasure, to re-read, then re-read again.… (altro)
