This is a super funny book that could be a great icebreaker on the first day of Kindergarten. It is the dinosaur's first day of school and he is struggling not to eat his classmates. He learns that it is not kind to eat his classmates and how to use self-control. This book would be a great addition to the classroom library or work well in a SEL lesson on kindness and interacting with the class. This could even be a fun way to transition the class into making rules on the first day of school!

A tiger is terrified of worms in this amusing beginning reader from author/illustrator Ryan T. Higgins, creator of the Mother Bruce and Penelope Rex picture book series. Everything he enjoys—flowers, apples, books—might be infested with worms, leading him to abandon each. The worms, in the meantime, are initially frightened of tigers, but come to believe he is leaving them gifts, and decide that what he truly needs are some worm hugs...

A Geisel Award Honor Book, What About Worms!? is the seventh entry in Hyperion's Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! collection, inspired by Mo Willems' own brilliant beginning reader series, Elephant & Piggie. It has Higgins' trademark brand of humor, as Tigger's fear of worms leads him to a course of action that only attracts the lumbricine figures he wishes to avoid. I found the story here amusing, and the accompanying artwork appealingly droll. Recommended to beginning readers who enjoy humorous tales.… (altro)

Penelope did not even know she wanted a pet - until there was Mittens, the saber-toothed cat. A rather large, undisciplined saber-tooth cat that made life for Penelope very difficult. Is Mittens just too much pet for Penelope to handle?
I really enjoyed this Penelope! It had a lot of subtle - and not-so-subtle - humor that will make it a fun read for both kids and adults! Which is nice because some kids will want to hear this one on repeat for a while.

In the fourth Penelope Rex book, everyone's favorite orange T.Rex gets a pet...Mittens, the saber-toothed tiger! Mittens has a definite Hobbes vibe, and Penelope loves being tackled to the ground at her front door just as much as Calvin does. After Mittens destroys Penelope's beloved pony-patterned backback and she yells at Mittens, they spend some time apart; Penelope realizes she does still want Mittens, and the Rex family learns to be better pet owners (exercise, training, outings, and baby gates).… (altro)
