This was released today!! I'm so excited to see a brand new book out on memory. I haven't gotten far enough along in Total Memory Makeover to have a strong opinion yet, but I have always been fascinated with the topic and how our past affects our present and I plan to read to the very end.

(Four stars) So far, I'm pleasantly surprised to find that there is not just a lot of personal experience woven into Marilu Henner's book, but helpful factual tidbits about different kinds of memory, how to improve it and how even though we think we've forgotten the seemingly little things that have happened, they still shape our lives and are always somehow with us...

Marilu Henner promises she will leave her readers with tricks to retrieve long-forgotten memories and how to turn bad experiences into life lessons...hoping this is the case!:)

Oddly enough, I'm reading a fiction book right now that just happens to deal with memory and one of my favorite quotes from it (The Street Sweeper) is: "If you can manage not to hate yourself, then it won't hurt to remember almost anything: your childhood, your parents, what you've done or what's been done to you."

I picked this up because I was looking for some health tips during my own cancer battle. One thing Marilu gets right is that there is no holistic approach to fighting cancer in the mainstream medical community. It's all chemotherapy and surgery, nothing about diet and healthy lifestyle changes. Unfortunately for the reader though there is not much practical advice in here. I enjoyed the story of how Marilu reconnected with a former college classmate only to find out that he had cancer after a lifetime of abusing his body. Marilu gets her new boyfriend to completely overhaul is lifestyle but this book assumes you have read her many previous books addressing health changes. I knew many of her diet suggestions, for instance you should be vegan: meat, dairy, and sugar free. While that might be expensive it could be attainable for most people but other things like flying across the country to see prestigious doctors, buying an infrared sauna, and colon cleansing on a regular basis is out of reach for most people not living on a Hollywood budget. I started out really liking the book but by the end I was sick of their traveling the globe in search of their next romantic rendezvous and the multiple mentions of their fabulous sex life. That is not to say that Marilu's boyfriend did not suffer in his treatments. All the money in the world can't save you from that when battling cancer. I just wish there was more emphasis on what an average person on an average budget can do to stack the deck in their favor. The best advice in this book, don't drink, don't smoke is common knowledge. If people choose to ignore that then there is a price to be paid no matter how accomplished you are or how much money is in your bank account.… (altro)

This book has some great receipes for healthier eating and some great tips. The author gets alittle bossy abt organizing your house and sock drawers, but she has good tips. The recipes are good. She is always dictating that flourless bread should be used, but then half her recipes involve pasta, doesn't make sense if you are going flourless. This has some good overall changes and advice that can be done to be healthy, but it is more pick and choose than to follow her progam to the letter. Also not practical for people that work outside the home. Her advice abt calling a good friend upon rising to start your day off happy is impractical for working people.… (altro)
