Erich Heller (1911–1990)

I first came across this book when I was researching art and artists for my dissertation on painting in Russian literature. I never did get very far into it because it is not, principally, about art and artists. I know next to nothing about German literature and especially German philosophy, and this book presupposes that you are not only already familiar with the literary works he is talking about, but familiar with the philosophies of Hegel, Wittgenstein, Nietzsche. Finally got around to reading it and while it sparked some interest in the works he talks about, I can't say I really understood most of what he is saying about them. I did enjoy some of the essays.
