Oh, wat een tof, mooi, boeiend, leerrijk en grappig boek is dit!

Mona Lisa en de anderen kwam tot stand in samenwerking met het Louvre en dat zie je. Naast de Mona Lisa komen er nog 30 andere beroemde kunstwerken uit hun collectie aan bod.

Het voorwoord wordt gegeven door de Mona Lisa herself; zij vertelt iets meer over haarzelf en haar geschiedenis als kunstwerk. Daarna komen de andere werken aan bod, elk werk spreekt je (letterlijk) aan. Ze vertellen iets meer over hun leven als persoon (in het geval van een portret), over hun wederwaardigheden als kunstwerk (gestolen, begraven, armen verloren, kleur kwijtgeraakt,) of de tijd waarin ze ontstaan zijn. Super origineel om de kunstwerken te laten spreken. Ook tof dat er voor één keer meer aandacht naar hen gaat dan naar hun makers.

Alles wordt op een grappige, vlotte en meeslepende manier verteld en de tekeningen van Blake maken het boek helemaal tot een pareltje. En ja, dit is een boek voor kinderen maar ik (als 44-jarige) heb hier ook veel van opgestoken.

Een boek ideaal voor iedereen die into kunst is dus, jong én oud!… (altro)

Een leuk informatief boek over het klimaat. De indeling van het boek leest prettig, ze hebben het ingedeeld in deel 1: dit weten we, deel 2: de problemen en deel 3 de oplossingen. Er staat veel informatie, maar ook gesprekken met onderbouwen en argumenten. Bij de problemen staat er rechts de bladzijde met de oplossingen. Ik zou dit boek gebruiken als extra informatie bij een les over klimaat of een casus van de problemen pakken en dat de kinderen zelf de oplossingen mogen bedenken. Achteraf kijken we naar de oplossingen die het boek geeft.… (altro)

The title creates the perfect starting pad for this book, which launches into the heart and soul of climate change and what possible affects it might have as well as practical solutions.

The theme of this book is clear, and every page stays centered in this direction, never steering away. And it's a packed book on top of that. While it's a picture book...sort of...it's definitely not for younger readers but works better for those nearing middle grade or sitting right in that audience level. The books starts out with a table of contents before heading into an introduction. From there, the various points are addressed and glide along until the end, where readers are given simple and practical ways that they themselves can do.

The illustrations in this one are bright, lively, and mix right along with the text, which makes it much more digestible for the intended audience because this book is filled to the gills with arguments, points, and information. While this is a great read for those wanting to explore climate change with that age group, it's the illustrations which keep it light enough not to scare readers away.

The arguments are laid out in a logical pattern, and thanks to the table of contents, easy to find and explore. I really enjoy the fact that it starts out with the problems, goes through what is being done/not being done, and then hits solutions...ones kids can use and not simply things which are out of their reach. Of course, I personally always find it better for such books to also offer some of the arguments against some of the theories because comparing or, at least, being aware is always the wiser solution and teaches more. Also, there was a bit of repetition as the book went further and further along.

That said, for those interested in bringing across this theme in a rounded way are going to enjoy this one quite a bit.… (altro)
