My basic problem with this series tends to be that individual numbers feel like less than the sum of their parts, no matter how good the parts are, and this booklet is not an exception. At best, it'll wet your appetite for one of the more in-depth works listed in the biography. If I'm left with a salient impression it's that whatever gloss the Italian air arm picked up in the Spanish Civil War rapidly evaporated, and that the RAF just had more solid training, doctrine, and, probably most important, deployment of radio across the board.… (altro)

Having a stronger narrative backbone than the authors' first book, this turns into a very good comparison of how the Regia Aeronautica fell to the RAF, despite having competitive numbers and probably a better reserve of combat-experienced pilots. Essentially, it boiled down to a question of better British logistics, better British command & control and an Italian military high command that misused its best available asset.
What's best about this work are the color profiles, the photos and the details relating to the relevant orders of battle. However, this really isn't a narrative history so much as a war diary of the months in question so keep that in mind if considering a purchase.
