A compelling if priviliged account by a first time Juror thrown in at the deep end of the Court Process. The sense of privilidge and contacts put me off, he seems to know so many people,but other than that an intelligent compelling account as to why we need a jury system.

A quite remarkable first hand account of British jury service with a handful of likely excellent advices for how to do trial by jury and how to be jury. Journalist Trevor Grove is called to a lengthy kidnapping trial. Jury members are not suppose to ever speak about the trial. Grove goes forward anyway, though only gives elusive hints on what went on in the heads of the juries.

I was both surprised and irritated that such a very new Magistrate had published this book without being chastised by the Lord Chancellor's Department, and had even been able to get quotes from the LC himself, when other Magistrate/authors of some long standing have been drummed out of the service for writing even small newspaper articles. It strikes me as ironic that the book is by someone who has still a lot of learning to do but seems to think he has sussed it all already...doesn't necessarily bode well for his attitudes when on the bench. Having said that, it is about time that the lay Magistracy, what they do and how they are appointed, became more visible and this book helps that visibilty.… (altro)
