This book is about a Navajo girl who loves to dream. One night there is a full-moon, which always brings magic into Wilma's life, and the night breeze brings her a diamond star. The book follows the dreams that Wilma has and the realness that her dreams have.

Nature is very important to the Navajo Indians. This book tells the tale of the Navajo Moon that has been passed down from generation to generation. When a Navajo girl dreamt one night, she goes on an adventure with a silver horse. They travel to the moon and when she wakes up there is also a small star underneath her pillow.

I thought this book could’ve incorporated more history in the story. But I thought it was cool how the story was told from the girl’s point of view and the tone was dream-like.

The artwork associated with the Navajo Indians is very unique and the children could create their own interpretation of one of the illustrations in the book. The class could also study more on the Navajo people using this book as a reference.

Summary: Wilma is a girl who has a big imagination. One night the starts leave her apresent, so she puts it under her bed and starts to dream. In her dream there is a beautiful white house and the moon shines like a diamond. When she wakes up its all gone but she is left with a sliver of the moon under her pillow.

Personal Reaction: I enjoyed this book because it gives children a chance to use their imagination. I would recomend this story to older children though.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. In the book, therre is a song Wilma sings to the Navajo moon, the children could memorize and sing that song.
2. In the classroom, the children and I can learn about the Navajo tribe.
