Samuel Green has been a Visiting Professor at Southern Utah University. Western Wyoming Community College, Colorado College, and Seattle University. Among his eleven collections of poems are Vertebrae: Poems 1978-1994 (Eastern Washington University Press) and The Grace of Necessity (Carnegie Mellon mostra altro University Press), which won the 2008 Washington State Book Award for Poetry. He has lived for 30 years off the grid on a small, remote island in a log house he built himself. He is, with his wife, Sally, co-editor of the award-winning Brooding Heron Press, which produces fine, letterpressed volumes of poetry. In December 2007, he was named to a two-year term as the Inaugural Poet Laureate for the State of Washington. Other honors include a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry and an Artist Trust Fellowship in Literature. mostra meno

Samuel Green, the poet laureate of Washington State, is a splendid poet, and this new book continues his terrific work. This is partly a book of poetic days, partly a meditation on death and grief, partly observations on life in ordinary time, partly a celebration of love, entirely crafted by a master of attentiveness. Green is able to capture the piercing, crystal moment and make us see it in a new way -- which is surely the gift of a master poet. Much of his work reflects the life he and his wife Sally have lived for the past he past 25 years on remote Waldron Island off the Washington coast in a log house he built himself. What a wonderful place it must be. I can't recommend his work highly enough. Enjoy.… (altro)
