Graziano applies a textual analysis to the religious, sexual, and "theatrical" components of the statist ideology used by the Argentine military to explain and justify the Dirty War of the 1970s and 80s. A fascinating, sometimes shocking compendium of psychological grotesqueries, innovative torture techniques, and perverse rationalizations. Compared to the Argentines, other practitioners of state terrorism in Latin America were amateurs.
