Choctaw is a fascinating book that tells the history and present-day information of the Choctaw people. The detailed history of the Choctaw was very thorough, carefully explaining multiple facets of daily life while staying interesting. Before reading this book, I knew very little about the Choctaw and their history. However, I believe this book explained it so well, I feel I now have a better understanding. Choctaw uses illustrations to help describe the different aspects of life of the Choctaw, helping the reader further understand what is being said. What I enjoyed were the photos at the back of the book, showing the most current memebrs of the Choctaw. I also enjoyed that this book discussed the importance of preserving the Choctaw culture. This book was about the Huron and included several topics: war, society, crafts, homes, clothing, family, location, etc. There were enough illustrations and graphs to keep it from being boring. The layout was also very simple and well-organized. There were two to three pages of information per topic. This made it very easy to pick up, read a little, and put back down.

The writing style was nice and not too complicated. The author also took the liberty of bolding key words. This would be a great book for a teacher avoiding an actual text book. It was thorough without dragging anything out, which made the book a good read though it was not all that entertaining.
