Heywood Gould

This is an interesting mystery, a kind of noir-ish black comedy with an eccentric cast of characters. It flows at a smooth pace as we follow the tribulations of an insane director with an imaginary crew, a poetry writing cop, a paranoid police chief, and a production crew on the verge of being fired. If you like Hollywood mysteries on the dark side you will like this.

This is an intriguing form of fiction, written from the perspective of a movie production. It's a fast-paced, light, humorous read, but I just couldn't connect. The characters felt more like caricatures, the plot more a parody than story. And perhaps that was the point. In any case, I kept putting it down and moving on to other things. It just didn't hold my attention.
