Breve biografia
Ekaterina Gordeeva was born in Moscow and began figure skating at age four. She showed promise as a competitive skater, and at age 11 was paired by a coach at her sports school with 15-year-old Sergei Grinkov. As a pairs team, Gordeeva and Grinkov won the 1985 World Junior Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and went on to win nearly every competition they entered, including the gold medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics. They became the most celebrated and decorated pairs skating team in the history of the sport. The skating partnership grew into a romantic relationship -- they married in 1991 and had a daughter, Daria Sergeyevna Grinkova, the following year. Gordeeva and Grinkov turned professional for a few years but returned to amateur competition and won their second Olympic gold medal in 1994. Gordeeva and her husband were inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame. In 1995, at age 28, he collapsed on the ice during a practice session and died from a massive heart attack. Gordeeva has published a memoir, My Sergei: A Love Story (1996), and an autobiographical children's book, A Letter for Daria (1998).

I love this so much!!! It is a beautiful book about an amazing man. Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov love story was so beautiful!!!! I remember watching them on tv staking when I was a child. The ending broke my heart, but she is so brave to move on like she did. I believe that Sergei is always her true love.

I was expecting sad but it wasn't quite as sad as I had anticipated. I found the life of an Olympic skater in the USSR in the 80s very interesting. I was always finding tidbits to tell my husband!

I found some parts amusing like being bored at a dinner with Reagan and Gorbachev! I was surprised by how they left Daria with her grandparents so often, but I could tell that skating was her life.

This book group read will provide a good discussion for love and loss.

This is a very lovely and moving memoir. There was a lot of ugly crying. I loved their story and it was told beautifully.

This was a beautiful look into the partnership/relationship of Katia and Sergei. Katia came across as open and honest, not afraid of revealing some of her insecurities and flaws. Getting an inside look at the world of competitive figure skating was interesting too. The end was sad but hopeful.
