A delightful travelogue that is both hilarious and insightful. What makes this book a little different is we get a good look at what's going on in the author's mind as he patiently sit aboard The Canadian, Canada's last trans-continental passenger train, as it falls fabulously behind schedule. The exchanges between him and his wife are cooped up for endless hours is laugh-out-loud funny. This is a must read for anyone who wants to take a train trip across Canada.

A wonderful, witty and informative narrative about a country I knew little about until after I read this book.

Then there's the fact that his Russian consisted of "I am Bob. I am a tourist. I am American. I do not speak Russian." Scary! It was a fun read but I'm glad it wasn't me in the Soviet Union starting out on the wrong train.… (altro)

I thought this was one of the best travel books I've ever read. The author weaves in his own journey along with interesting stories about Finland's culture and history. The author also seems particularly skillful at including his own thoughts as he pedals relentlessly north. As a fellow bicycle rider I found this particularly interesting. Finally, there are parts of the book that are simply laugh-out-loud funny.
