First a quick word on availability - for some reason no book sellers seem to list it in stock, however it is available directly from the publisher - http://www.gefenpublishing.com/product.asp?productid=679. Obviously this may change by the time you read this, but it's true right now. (And in case you were wondering, this is how I got my copy, so it clearly works).

Goldschmidt (b. 1895) was a scholar of Jewish liturgy. He originally published a critical and scholarly version of the haggadah in German in 1936. It was later translated in Hebrew, and that is the product you are looking at. (At the current time, it has not been translated into any other languages).

Goldschmidt's haggadah is incredible both for it's depth and it's breadth. He pulls in data from countless sources - geniza fragments, manuscripts, countless rabbinic and scholarly works, academic journals, etc. If you look at his footnotes you'll see that his sources come in at least four or five languages. He discusses the origins and development of every part of the haggadah and holds all theories up to careful scrutiny. Even now, decades after it was originally published, this is still considered to be *the* scholarly haggadah and the reason is obvious - Goldschmidt's work is second to none. If you want something that will give a scholars view into the text of the haggadah, this is the book you want.
