Katharina Elisabeth Goethe (1731–1808)

Katharina Elisabeth Goethe was born to a prominent family in the city state of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. In 1748, she married Johann Kaspar Goethe, with whom she had four children, one of whom was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the writer, intellectual, and statesman. She was the heroine of Bettina von Arnim's Dies Buch gehört dem König (1843), and is one of the central figures of the play Der Königsleutnan by Karl Gutzkow. Her letters were published after her death in 1885 and 1889.
