Alan Gibbons (1) (1953–)

This a great book for low ability, ESL and dyslexic children, mixing a fictional story with real-life facts about the boxer Muhammad Ali.

I've read this book several times with my students, and actually enjoyed it myself. The illustrations are charming and unobtrusive, the story is meaningful and relatable (addressing racism and bullying in an accessible way), and the pace is just right.

A lot of other books pitched at this reading level are trite, stupid, or incredibly poorly-written, but this one is a rare exception.

This book is about how a family copes after the death of the main person of the family, the head of the household, Mother/Wife. They struggle through the first year not knowing to get on without her. In the end though they find a way through their issues on the anniversary of her death it seems her family has learned to get on without her by keeping her mind.I would say this book is good for a younger people especially those who have lost a key person in their family this book can have the ability to inspire but it depends on the reader.… (altro)
