- Princess Maria or Marie of Greece and Denmark was a daughter of King George I of Greece and his wife, née Grand Duchess Olga Constantinovna of Russia. She was a first cousin and confidante of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. In 1900, she married another cousin, Grand Duke George Mikhailovich, with whom she had two daughters. She spent many years away from her husband and Russia, and remained in the UK after the outbreak of World War I. Her husband was murdered by the Bolsheviks during the Russian Revolution. In 1922, she remarried to Pericles Ioannides, a Greek admiral, and later returned to live in Greece. Her autobiography, entitled A Romanov Diary, was published posthumously in 1988.
