OK, so now I'm looking at some graphic novels. MKW lent this to me when she saw me reading the Bee times. A quite remarkable telling of the story of the assassination of Rasputin, that reveals that it was essentially a British plot (who knew?), but all told as comic book through dialogue.

Petrograd- Thanks peoples Library!

Before StPetersburg, before Leningrad..

Petrograd Russia during the first world war was a hotbed of allied forces, spies, and double agents. With key global forces actively entrenched in frontline combat against the Central Powers, a shift in alliances would have broke the back of the Allies. England catches wind of Russian interest toward brokering peace with Germany. Doing so would take Russia out of the war, diminish ground forces and our world would have a different history.

In Petrograd, the Tzarina is being led successfully toward peace by a frightening but bold Russian Holyman/Charlatan by the name of Rasputin. He is known for his commanding gaze, political prowess, understanding of the common man, and virile but sexually polluted member. Rasputin has England in a fearful corner imagining the upcoming shift in power dynamics.

“Murder is the emperor of political action”

Over the years I have read a number of smaller articles about the dicey shell game WWI era super powers were playing. This Graphic Novel was deeply researched in order to provide a mottled ethical and moral approach to the assassination of Rasputin.

I have been itching to read Petrograd for a while. Unfortunately, ovwr the years I had a hard time justifying the $30 usd pricetag for the edition. Good thing for me the local library had a copy. It was beat up and worked over, but what better way for a Bolshevik to read a book than to gain access via a public institution of knowledge.
