It teach kids how to make these crafts in step by step pictures. Then the author tells about her experience while traveling in West Africa. She shares about the history of the art and the traditional uses for such crafts as mask, pottery, kente weaving and adinkra block printing. I enjoyed the pictures of the craftspeople actually in the task of creating these items. I also enjoyed her ideas for kids to create their own version using similar techniques. This book is loaded with pictures and I feel that it helps kids understand better this unfamiliar part of the world. A teacher can use the ideas in this book when teaching about the history of the West African people.The crafts are more for older children. Age group: 10-12 years.… (altro)

Adinkra block printing, pot coiling, mask making, music makers, and kente strip weaving are explained and step-by-step instructions are given that are easy to follow. Each crafts cultural significance and its’ traditional use is accompanied by photographs taken in Ghana. This book gives wonderful details that adults as well as children can appreciate. Even though this book is recommended for ages 9 – 12, I don’t believe that children would be able to satisfactorily complete these projects without adult help however. But with its history, cultural information and instructions it is a nearly complete resource that can be used for teaching as well as just for home enjoyment.… (altro)
