Cassandra Gannon

One of my favorite independent authors, Cassandra Gannon's books are such fun to read. This latest in the Frightful Love series written by her and her sister is a nice mix of horror and earnest open-door romance. I think this one was the scariest in the series so far, and it got a bit dark but was ultimately fine. Loved Dash and Lori, both together and separately.

My only real issue with her books continues to be the need for careful final editing (punctuation errors, use of wrong words like "past" instead of "passed," mis-spelling Britney Spears' first name as "Brittany," which feels like a cardinal sin for a book set in 2000). Each error yanks me out of an enjoyable story, which is truly a shame. I would still read anything she writes though!… (altro)

The Sheriff of Nottingham was murdered and Maid Marion was falsely convicted for it. 10 years later, she gets the chance to go back in time so that she can stop it from happening again.

I kind of love this book. The characters are really fun, the romance is believable (in it's own strange way), the plot was interesting. I adore the Kinda Fairytale world and this made me want to start the series over again.

But it felt like this book was a bit too long. It's over 700 pages, double the length of most of the books in the series. The plot didn't move forward very much during the middle of the book, so it was easier for me to put it down to do other things.… (altro)

Cinderella gets engaged to Prince Charming and puts her stepsisters into a mental institution/prison for fairytale Baddies. But the distinction between the Good folk and the Bad is more complicated than one might expect.

I like the characters in this book. The romance between Letty and Marrok was sweet and I liked how their relationship grew. The supporting cast was great, too, especially Avenant. Cinderella has a few chapters that are somewhat disturbing, but she's an interesting villain.

Wicked Ugly Bad is a lot of fun, especially the parts set in the institution. I really like how some fairytales are shown in a whole new light. I'm excited to read the next book in the series.… (altro)

The Kingpin of Camelot is a super cute romance between Guinevere (from the King Arthur legends) and Midas (the king who turns what he touches to gold).

Guinevere was in a loveless marriage with Arthur, who was a jerk and an idiot. After Arthur dies, the evil Scarecrow is trying to force Gwen to marry him in order to steal the kingdom. Gwen breaks out with her daughter, Avalon, and runs to Midas, the most powerful bad guy in Camelot, to make a deal. Midas will help Gwen win the throne, then he will rule Camelot with her. Tristan, Midas's best friend and bodyguard, doesn't trust her, but Midas agrees anyway. Midas and Gwen make a contract laying out the terms of their relationship, and it slowly changes as their relationship evolves. The romance between them is really sweet.

This book truly has 4 main characters instead of just the 2 love interests. Tristan and Avalon are very prominent in the story. I like Avalon (even though her dialog was very awkward in my opinion) and it was sweet to see Midas and Avalon get to know each other and become family. I love Tristan's character. He is very loyal to those that he loves and he's badass. I'm super excited to read the next book in the series, which has Tristan as a love interest.… (altro)
