Breve biografia
Gallahue is best known as the author of “The Jesuit,” a best-selling mystery novel in 1973 that may have been inspired by his experience in a Jesuit seminary in New England. He lived his entire life in Manhattan. He traveled extensively, taught at Columbia and the New School and counseled homeless people.

The Jesuit. John Gallahue. 1973. This book did not live up to my expectations. It’s not the first time I’ve read a review on a Catholic web site and been disappointed. Sometimes these sites put more importance on the catholicity of a book than the quality of the book. It was suspenseful, but it was slow moving at times because of the writing style. In 1931 a young Jesuit at an American seminary is called to the Vatican for a mysterious mission. Ulanov is told he will be made a bishop and be sent, in secret, to Russia to ordain new priests and conduct masses and hear confessions. The harsh conditions in Russia and the impossible dangers the priests face are presented vividly. The conclusion was a real surprise.… (altro)
