This flashback wasn't awkward at all for me. Maybe cause my attention was focused on the underlying affection and what's this episode reveal about Toreth:

A little sim-disturbing episode

Toreth can maintain his detachment mask less and less; attract attention that, for a torturer, he seems to be more and more a sentimental.
